Crossing Shadow 1000x800x300cm, light installation, 2010. In my former home in the Hague degradation area Transvaal, I hung lights in a manner that certain corners of the space were not exposed and thus dark, invisible and useless. The house has now been demolished. This work consists of a scale model of the house on which I have projected light. This created sharp shadows and light spots. I then subtracted all the shaded (the invisible, unusable areas) so that only those parts of the room remained which were actually used. This creates a new reality of usable / visible and unusable / invisible space and thus the conflict between the two. This corresponds metaphorically to the situation in a degradation area.
